Barbara Chappell has been actively involved in community service since the mid 1980’s. She now specialises in the research and practice of community connections and engagement through the Australian Community Engagement Foundation (ACEF). She has an established track record of working with local and state government, and not for profit organisations, particularly in the development, review and improvement of community engagement frameworks. She provides community engagement training for staff, community groups and organisations through Simply Speaking, and facilitates connections between communities, not-for-profit organisations and government agencies. Most recently, she has been delivering training in Results Based Accountability for Community Centres SA.
Barbara has extensive knowledge and experience in community engagement, and over the past few years, has studied and worked internationally to develop a sound knowledge of deliberative processes which she views as important to the progression towards community governance and capacity building in organisations and communities.
She hosts a program on community radio station Adelaide’s CoastFM 88.7 called “Close Encounters of a Community Kind”. The aim of the program is to connect people to what is happening in their communities. She has a keen interest in food sustainability so community gardens get plenty of air time.
