Ali is a Gamilaroi woman who lived and moved around rural NSW before arriving on Yuin country 23 years ago. Since then Ali has lived and worked on Dharawal and Yuin country in the Illawarra Shoalhaven region of NSW working closely with her community, and with the broader community also.
Ali has extensive experience working in a range of community development, case management and capacity building positions in a range of disability specific roles with both generalist and Aboriginal community organisations which have enabled her to work with individuals, families, communities and providers on the NSW South Coast and has strengthened her state wide networks with government and non government organisations alike.
Ali is passionate about working within and being of service to her community by taking a holistic approach to supporting people heal from past and/or current traumas and points of crisis, and to access appropriate supports and service systems to help their needs be met. She is also dedicated to advocating for, supporting, and promoting local and national initiatives aimed at improving the rights and welfare of all members of our communities, particularly those who are most vulnerable and least consulted.
Ali holds a B.A. (Indigenous Studies) and has had extensive training and experience in getting to client set goals; strengths based therapeutic work with children; foetal alcohol spectrum disorders; understanding and responding to children’s trauma needs; accidental and holistic counselling; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health first aid; supporting adult survivors of complex trauma; working with people with complex needs including bipolar, depression, anxiety , emotional dysregulation, unresolved trauma and chronic anger; working with family members of people with personality disorders; AD/HD group facilitation; Key Sign; and Traditional Indigenous games facilitation.
